What would it be like to NOT have a summary? Activity Ask partners to return to their stories from the warm-up activity. For example, explain that summaries are different from other types of writing in that they're very short and concise, or specific. You may also summarize your own paper in an introduction in order to present a brief overview of the ideas you will discuss throughout the rest of the paper. Write a one or two sentence summary of each section. It should be a story with a beginning, middle and end. A summary must be coherent: It should make sense as a piece of writing in its own right; it should not merely be taken directly from your list of notes or sound like a disjointed collection of points. If they finish too soon, have them add more details as they remember.
